Dunbar Running Club: Festive Half & 10k: Sunday 5th December

Dunbar Running Club: Festive Half & 10k: Sunday 5th December
We have been invited to run in the Dunbar Running Club’s annual festive half marathon and 10k.
The idea of the race is that everyone finishes at the same time, so the start times are staggered accordingly.
You can either run the half marathon or the 10k.
If you intend to run, it would be good if you could tell me, so I can pass numbers onto DRC to help with the catering.
Runners have been known to run in fancy dress too!
Day: Sunday 5th December.
Venue: Hallhill Healthy Living Centre, Dunbar
Time: The race is timed to end about 12. So runners should be there in plenty of time to both submit their handicap time to the starter and get ready for the start of the race. For example; if a runner estimates 1:45 for the half they will have to be there to give your time, get changed, warmed up and ready to start at 10:15.
Soup and sandwiches will be served afterwards.

Parkrun: 23rd October 2010

Sitting down to my bowl of muesli at 7.45am, I had my doubts, as the rain lashed onto the kitchen window from a very threatening sky. I got a text from Dermott calling off. Very wise I thought.

Roland came to get Craig and myself at 8.30, still raining but looking less ominous. By the time we got to Cramond it had all but stopped and the skies even lightened. Bumped into Alex, totally in an Ipod world of his own. Steve and Jamie were there too, so a good turnout from MDAC. Steve on his umpteenth Parkrun, Jamie and Roland on their first.

As usual the talk on the start line was of previous PBs, and possible targets. In Alex’s case it was more to do with his latest shoe acquisitions.

Chilly north wind off the Forth, made the outward leg tough. At no time did I feel in control of my running. Had hopes of hanging onto Steve, but that was wishful thinking. Again far too much huffing and puffing. Felt like running through treacle. Very glad to cross the line.

Alex was 18.43. Great running from Craig with a PB of 19.23, then Steve in 20.53 (pretty good considering he is just back from injury), then me in 21.37.

Of the first timers, Jamie stormed home in a great time of 23.34, Roland in 27.24. Both benchmarks to attack next time.

Roland, Alex, Craig and myself then retired to the Cramond café for a well deserved hot chocolate and a fruit scone. Made it all worth while.

Scottish East District Cross Country League

Scottish East District Cross Country League
Saturday 16th October 2010. Stirling University
Stirling X Country

The second cross country race of the season and the first for the Scottish East District Cross Country League. Weather was glorious for mid October; dry, not too cold and no wind.

Four senior men from MDAC; Dermot, Craig, Tony and Gordon running under the Team East Lothian banner. Paddy, Frank and Sandy from HELP made up the rest of the team.

Conditions underfoot were pretty good, with just the odd bit of mud. Good running from everyone. Dermot was first home, despite one of the marshals trying to make him run an extra lap. Next home was Craig. I held off Tony (but only just). I was very glad to see the end. Seemed to be huffing and puffing all the way round. More training and cross country needed!
